The one with the thoughts on humanity

I was in the middle of finalizing my next article on the series of articles explaining in details what QA is all about when a pandemic was declared worldwide.

This year from the beginning of 2020 until now (when I was writing this article), also came a series of "unfortunate events". From the almost world war III that was triggered by Trump and Kim Jong Il to the wild bushfires in Australia that devastated millions of wildlife, to a series of calamities worldwide, to a big locusts infestation in Africa... And now the declaration of a world pandemic that killed (as of this writing) more than 14,000 people worldwide with 220,000 plus active cases.

As I was writing this article, France has been on its first week of lockdown, and Paris like any other french city, are on quarantine and people are ordered to stay at home except for some limited activities outside but with a required affidavit to sign.

This is unprecedented and what would eventually be written in the books will be on what humanity did to survive this time of difficulty.

As one of the VCs wrote to my CEO, "COVID-19 is not only a test of our resilience, it is a test of our humanity".

He may be on point about this as we can now see different kinds of reactions from people. Some start to panic and ended up buying way more stuff than what they needed. Some are completely nonchalant about this and would not heed the government warning about keeping some social distance and quarantine. But there are those who are showing kindness, generosity, encouragement, and cooperation to help those who needed help, to consider others more than themselves, and to give to those who lack.

In these times of difficulty, what we do in this period would shape our very person. Will we become someone kinder, gentler, more considerate, or adaptive, learning new things during this time of confinement? Or will we become greedy, selfish, and self-centred just to survive? It's up to us to really reflect on what is important and what kind of person we want to come out from this. The choice is in our hands. It's up to us to decide.
